Cruise Planning

Have
you ever wanted to cruise to new waters and go beyond your local
area or to cruise for an extended time of a week or more? This class
is designed for power or sail boaters, owned or chartered. You will
learn how to prepare for the cruise, provision the boat, plan
logistics and keep in touch with home. We will show you what's
required outside the US, voyage management, communications, dealing
with risks and emergencies.

Engine Maintenance

In
this class we will teach you the basics of engine layout and
operations. Gasoline and diesel engines are both covered in this
class along with drive, steering, exhaust and cooling systems. Also
you will learn how to maintain engines, diagnose and prevent
problems and make emergency repairs afloat.

Marine Electrical Systems

This class is the beginning of our
three part electrical and electronic series. You
will start by leaning about electrical wiring practices and
diagrams, direct and alternating current power, galvanic and stray
current corrosion, and lighting protection. Trouble shooting and
feeling comfortable while preforming even tricky wiring tasks are
skills you will acquire after completing this course.

Marine Communication Systems

This
is the second class of our three part electrical and electronic
series, which explains various shipboard communications systems like
VHF marine radio, DCS digital select calling, single sideband radio and satellite. You will learn how to
select install, operate and trouble shoot your communication
systems.

Marine Electronics

This class is the
last of the three part electrical and electronic series. We will
cover all aspects of electronic navigation using GMDSS as a
foundation. From a systems perspective we will focus on electronic
devices to augment navigation on the water. Topics will include GPS,
AIS, RADAR, depth sounders, electronic charting systems and
electronic bus structures.

Sail

This
class starts with basic sailboat designs and nomenclature, rigging,
safety and sail processes and then tackles the physical aspects of
sailing forces and techniques, sail applications marlinespike,
helmsmanship and handling in difficult sailing conditions,
navigation rules and an introduction to heavy weather sailing.

Weather

This
course focuses
on how weather systems form, behave, move and interact with one
another and reflects the availability of all sorts of weather reports
and forecasts on the internet. You will get USPS Weather manual with
explanatory text with full color photographs and drawings covering
weather in the United States and coastal and inland waters, plus a
set of three daily weather maps used for explaining map symbols,
reading and analysis and NOAA's
Watcher Chart as a reference to
assist in identifying cloud types.
